Today I Love

This image

One of the National Geographic International Photography Contest entries for 2009

"Nazroo, a mahout (elephant driver), poses for a portrait while taking his elephant, Rajan, out for a swim in front of Radha Nagar Beach in Havelock, Andaman Islands. Rajan is one of the few elephants in Havelock that can swim, so when he is not dragging timber in the forest he is used as a tourist attraction. The relationship between the mahout and his elephant usually lasts for their entire lives, creating an extremely strong tie between the animal and the human being."

Indulgence

Biggest Clothing Indulgences?
Jackets - the first thing people see when you walk into a room and the last thing they see when you leave.
You can never have too many.
And Plaid Shirts. Especially Steven Alan ones.

Biggest Home-Made Indulgence?
Cookies. and Pie.

Biggest Store-Bought Indulgence?
Ciao Bella key lime & graham cracker gelato - simply amazing.

Most Embarrassing Indulgence?
Corn Dogs. I can't explain it.

Smallest Indulgence?
Berries

Biggest Home Indulgence?
Chairs - I finally found a vintage black Eames lounger last month. The most comfortable chair in the world. And throw blankets! You can never have too many, and they can never be too warm.

Biggest Decorating Indulgence?
Prints. And milk bottles.

Biggest Entertainment Indulgence?
Books. A burden to move around & store, but a tangible history of me. I've thought of going Kindle, but I can't bring myself to not having books.

Biggest Beauty Indulgence?
Bumble & Bumble Shampoo

Biggest Weekend Indulgences?
Big breakfasts at home. Coffee. Bike rides.

Biggest Holiday Indulgence?
Gifts! and a good letterpress Christmas card. Also, the aforementioned cookies and pie.

Biggest Non-Purchased Indulgence?
Time. Time to think, write, create. Time to do nothing.

Weekend Plans

Ahh, this weekend I'm looking forward to working on the Save the Dates, beginning to think about Christmas gifts (i know my brother is just DYING for a powerbook), more house projects, and (I never thought I would say this...) painting the ceiling in the studio! I'm still up in the air over a wall color for the studio, but I want something inspirational... The one thing about living in a house in Fishtown is that I'm never at a loss for weekend projects.

I'll leave you with this work by Alex Lukas at Glowlab (via My Love for You...). It reminds me of one of my all-time favorite songs, "Nothing but Flowers" by the Talking Heads.

Listen to it here.

Wish list: loungewear

Ahh, a girl can dream, can't she?

I couldn't help myself

Our change of address cards.

I'm mailing them out ASAP, but I just had to post them as well.

I love the telegram/airmail look!

Bike Station in DC

Union Square in Washington, DC, is showing off a shiny new Bike Transit Center that offers secure bike parking for 150 cycles, plus a changing room, lockers, bike rentals, and a repair shop for commuters. Access to the center costs $1 per day or a yearly membership fee of $100, which includes round-the-clock entry. The facility will be the first of its kind on the East Coast, part of an effort to encourage eco-friendly commuting with the promise of added security for bicycles. Eighty-percent of the funding for the $4-million bike center came from the US Department of Transportation, with additional funds from the DDOT.
Oooooh, when can Philly have one of these??
